چکیده

We revisit the standard treatment [Xu, Kharzeev, Satz and Wang, Phys. Rev. C 53, 3051 (1996)] of J/ψ suppression due to gluonic bombardment in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Effects arising from gluon fugacity, relative g − ψ flux, and ψ meson formation time are correctly incorporated in the formulation of the gluon number density, velocity-weighted cross section, and the survival probability. Our new formulae are applied to numerically study the pattern of J/ψ suppression in the central rapidity region at RHIC/LHC energies. The temperature and transverse momentum dependence of our graphs have noticeable differences from those of Xu et al. PACS numbers: 12.38M

J/ψ Gluonic Dissociation Revisited : II. Hydrodynamic Expansion Effects

We explicitly take into account the effect of hydrodynamic expansion profile on the gluonic breakup of J/ψ’s produced in an equilibrating parton plasma. Attention is paid to the space-time inhomogeneities as well as Lorentz frames while deriving new expressions for the gluon number density ng, average dissociation rate 〈Γ̃〉, and ψ survival probability S. A novel type of partial wave interference...

J/ψ Gluonic Dissociation Revisited : III. Effects of Transverse Hydrodynamic Flow

In a recent paper [Eur. Phys. J C 44, 567 (2005)] we developed a very general formulation to take into account explicitly the effects of hydrodynamic flow profile on the gluonic breakup of J/ψ’s produced in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Here we apply that formulation to the case when the medium is undergoing cylindrically symmetric transverse expansion starting from RHIC or LHC initial c...

Azimuthal asymmetry of J/ψ suppression in non-central heavy-ion collisions

The azimuthal asymmetry of J/ψ suppression in non-central heavy-ion collisions is studied within a dynamic model of J/ψ suppression in a deconfined partonic medium. Within this model, J/ψ suppression in heavy-ion collisions is caused mainly by the initial state nuclear absorption and dissociation via gluon-J/ψ scattering in deconfined partonic medium. Only the second mechanism gives arise to az...

We adress the question of how a c − ¯ c–state (a J/ψ) can be dissociated by the strong color electric fields when moving through a color electric flux tube. The color electric flux tube and the dissociation of the heavy quarkonia state are both described within the Friedberg-Lee color dielectric model. We speculate on the importance of such an effect with respect to the observed J/ψ–suppression...

Charmonium Dissociation and Recombination: Cold Effects

Thirty years ago, Matsui and Satz proposed the J/ψ destruction as a signal of a Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) formation, due to the Debye screening between the pair c-cbar. At the light of the recent experimental data, I review the different effects on J/ψ production, from SPS to LHC energies, distinguishing between Cold Nuclear Matter (CNM) and QGP effects. Different possibilities and explanations ...
